United Methodist Women
United Methodist Women (UMW) is an active group within Asbury United Methodist Church. The statement of purpose of the United Methodist Women declares:
The organized unit of the UMW shall be a community of women whose purpose is
to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through
Jesus Christ;
to develop a creative, supportive fellowship;
and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the
global ministries of the church.
All women are welcome to join a group. Asbury has three circles that meet mid-month --
- Hope ( meets Wednesday morning )
- Love ( meets Tuesday afternoon)
- Faith (meets Thursday evening )
These women, along with many women who consider themselves members at large and not a circle member, support many projects guided by the UMW. UMW sponsors a fall pantry, two pasty sales, two meatball dinners and a Souper Bowl Sunday. These projects provide financial assistance to Asbury and outreach to the community through programs such as Heat Share and the Food Shelf. Other activities include a rummage sale, gatherings with area UMW groups and Saturday Specials featuring guest speakers.
Asbury UMW's annual Advent Tea is hosted by women of the church, with proceeds going to the UMW's layette fund, a program coordinated with the Salvation Army for the benefit of new mothers in need. In all, we support 11 community projects, in addition to the projects of the Big Waters District and the Minnesota Conference. We are proud to have earned the status of being a Mission Today Unit and a Five Star Unit.
